The Shakurs is not a new name in the spotlight- a family of activists, trendsetters, and creative brains, almost everyone is familiar with this legendary family. However, not everyone is aware of Mutulu Shakur’s son, Chinua Shakur. Jeral Wayne Williams (Mutulu) was a member of the Black Liberation Army and was well-known for his activism and tragic imprisonment. In addition, he was married to Afeni Shakur.
As previously said, this family is well-known, although certain facts remain unknown to this day. Continue reading if you want to learn more about Chinua Shakur and other Shakur facts.
Chinua Shakur Personal Life
Chinua Shakur is Mutulu Shakur’s son and Afeni Shakur’s step-son. Nothing is known about Chinua’s mother or whether she was a part of his life. Afeni Shakur, however, never got wedded after Mutulu was taken into custody. The Shakur family tree is a little convoluted and intricate. So it’s preferable to start at the beginning.
In 2022, Mutulu Shakur will be 72 years old because he was born on August 8th, 1950. He was born in Maryland, but his mother eventually transferred the two of them to Queens. Prior to shifting to activism in his late teens when he joined the Republic of New Afrika, he practiced acupuncture.
Similar to Chinua Shakur, little is known about Mutulu’s educational history or religious convictions. He advocated for Black emancipation, nevertheless.
Chinua Shakur’s Siblings
Since the Shakur clan is a large family, Chinua Shakur has a large number of siblings—six to be exact. Tupac Shakur, Sekyiwa Shakur, Mopreme Shakur, Nzingha Shakur, Ayize Shakur, and Takerra Allen are Chinua’s half- and step-siblings.

The only half-sibling Chinua has is Sekyiwa Shakur; the rest are step-siblings. It’s hard to tell whether Chinua gets along well with his siblings because he has been secretive for a very long time. But given how well-adjusted the other Shakur siblings are, it’s simple to assume that he does.
What happened to Mutulu, the father of Chinua Shakur?
Not only is Mutulu Shakur well-known for his activism but also for marrying Afeni Shakur, the widow of his older brother. He is also well-known for spending six years on the FBI’s most-wanted list.
A Brink’s armored car was looted in 1981 by six Black Liberation Army militants, who made off with $1.6 million. A Brink’s guard, two Nyack cops, and several more were slain during the operation. Six years passed between Mutulu’s escape and his capture, at which point he was charged with a 60-year sentence. He has now filed many applications to have his sentence reduced, but each one has been rejected.
Whether Chinua Shakur was born before or during his captivity is unclear. But we can say with certainty that he was not wed to Chinua’s mother. Makini Shakur and Mutulu were wed in 1982 and divorced in 2010. Before that, from 1975 until 1982, he was wed to Afeni Shakur.
