Afeni Shakur, however, never got wedded after Mutulu was taken into custody. The Shakur family tree is a little convoluted and intricate. So it’s preferable to start at the beginning.
In 2022, Mutulu Shakur will be 72 years old because he was born on August 8th, 1950. He was born in Maryland, but his mother eventually transferred the two of them to Queens. Prior to shifting to activism in his late teens when he joined the Republic of New Afrika, he practiced acupuncture.
Similar to Chinua Shakur, little is known about Mutulu’s educational history or religious convictions. He advocated for Black emancipation, nevertheless.

Six years passed between Mutulu’s escape and his capture, at which point he was charged with a 60-year sentence. He has now filed many applications to have his sentence reduced, but each one has been rejected.
Whether Chinua Shakur was born before or during his captivity is unclear. But we can say with certainty that he was not wed to Chinua’s mother. Makini Shakur and Mutulu were wed in 1982 and divorced in 2010. Before that, from 1975 until 1982, he was wed to Afeni Shakur.
