Career
From 2000 until 2004, Carol Porter served on the Hawaii State Board of Education. From 1998 through 2007, Carol and her husband, Mike, had a toffee business called “Hawaiian Toffee Treasures.”
Later, in 2007, she and her husband co-founded the Aloha Parenting Project (APP), a non-profit grassroots organization aimed at educating, encouraging, and supporting parents in bringing up kids who would become accountable, useful members of society.
She also held the offices of secretary and treasurer of the Science of Identity Foundation from 1990 until 2000.
She has furthermore assisted her husband in running a number of businesses, such as Mike’s Sport Shot (1974–1978), Natural Deli (1988–1992), Talofa Services LLC (2013–present), and Infotech Communications LLC (June 2002 – April 2004).
Personal Life
Gerald Michael “Mike” Gabbard and Carol have been wed for more than 50 years. The couple married vows on December 27, 1968, in East Grand Rapids, Michigan.
In 1967, Carol Porter Gabbard and Mike Gabbard had their first encounter in California’s Yosemite National Park.
At the time, they were both working at the Camp Curry Cafeteria. Carol was a waitress, while Mike worked as a cashier.
Her spouse initiated the first date invitation for her. On their first date, they played tennis at the Ahwahnee Hotel Courts where she thrashed him 6-0, 6-0.
The couple has been married for 52 years and is still very much in love. The pair is currently based in Kalaeloa, Hawaii.
The family has a total of 5 children. Carol and Mike welcomed three sons, Bhakti, Jai, and Narayan, in addition to two daughters, Tulsi and Vrindavan.
All of their older children are doing well in their own careers. Tulsi Gabbard, the fourth of their five children, is particularly notable.
She became Hawaii’s youngest woman lawmaker when she was elected to the US Senate at the age of 21. In addition, she began to run for president in 2020.
On August 5, 2016, Carol and her spouse received America’s Legislator Parents of the Year 2016 award in The Arbor Ballroom of The Washington Times.
